how would the world be different now if Columbus hadn't "discovered" america?
i was watching this humorous clip on the youtube ( check it out if you understand Spanish ) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M1PazfPj8NQ and it made me think... although obviously if America hadn't been "discovered" when it was, Europeans would have found it anyway by now, but what if Europeans had not set up civilization in America as soon as they did? how would the world be different? what do you think? yes britney everyone knows that there wree people living here, and in taht sense it was not discovered as new found land. but for europeans it was their discovery. much the same as if i discovered a store at the mall i didnt know was there. its not like i invented it, and other people knew, but for me it was a discovery.

- Well he really didn't discover it. In fact the Viking discovered it hundreds of years before he supposedly did. I'm sure the American Indians that were already here would have ben a lot happier if they never had been discovered. How do you discover something that has already been found anyways?
- the chinese or russians might have discovered california. And then we'd all be asian communists. I'd much prefer the present america to a communist chinese one.
- Columbus did not discover the U.S. or North America. But he did discover Cuba and some of the Carribean Islands. I believe he also discovered the mainland of S. America. The Europeans who discovered N. America were Norse, and probably originally had a settlement in Nova Scotia. The site is called L'anse Aux Meadows. You are correct in that Europeans would have 'discovered' N. America...or our whole continents of the 'Americas'...explorers, other than the Spanish, (mostly from Britain did discover not only N. America, Canada, and the west coast of the Americas... More info. below........ isis1037@yahoo.com
- The United Kingdom would probably be the preeminent superpower (having not used up the money and resources they did to fight the American Revolution and War of 1812). Although, Germany might have won the first World War without the US involvement. If this had happened, Hitler wouldn't have risen to power and World War II would never have happened. The American continent would not be called the Americas because it is likely that someone other than Amerigo Vespucci would have mapped it. Who knows if the discovery of electricity, the invention of airplanes, and other scientific breakthroughs would have been pushed off for decades or centuries, had it not been for the establishment of the United States.
- My native american race would not have had at least eighty percent of its population killed by the gross diseases the europeans brought over
- Who uses wikipedia as a site reference? Nice try Isis
- he never discovered so there would not be anything differend
- THERE WOULD BE NO THANKSGIVING!!!!!!!!! i, personally, dont care for that holiday. but we get school off 4 it so we need it
