Humorous Movies

why is a guy that trys to look like a woman thought of as a joke or funny?

There are many humorous movies about the subject and shows on youtube with a guy wearing a dress and his friends behind him laughing. I think its kind of brave but why is being or trying to imatate a girl though of as funny or a joke? Isnt that sexist?

  1. Because people now a days are jerks. Black and White And the only way to make them understand it is often making fun of it. either because their scared of it, or are feeling the same their self's but because of Society, their scared to show it. For fear of not fitting in. So they make fun of it to impress and built a higher rank in the group that they wish or do belong to.
  2. Because with gender comes a set of rules in our society and acting like the opposite sex seems so outlandish to some people that it's become a sort of humor I guess.
  3. its our culture/generation. people are very closed minded and don't except anything that doesn't fit in with what they believe is right.
  4. It shows how much divided gender roles are integrated into our society and way of life. We may act like we're free to do whatever we choose, but how much freedom does a man really have who desires to dress in womens clothing, especially if he can't pass for a woman. Before I quite made the cut, going out in public was a trifle frightening. A few more months of male to female hormones have made it easier on me though, but I certainly wish people wouldn't make it such an issue for everyone.
  5. I don't think that every guy that dresses as a woman is thought of as a joke. Certainly there are movies where men dress as women, but I can think of many instances where it is handled well. The TV show Bosom Buddies was a sit-com where the leads dressed as women and the humor wasn't in how they were dressed, but in the ridiculous situations they were in. To Wong Foo starred Wesley Snipes and Patrick Swayze as women (wow) and again the humor wasn't in how they were dressed, and I could keep going with examples but I picked mainstream media. Men had been portraying women in theatre in England until the 17th century, imagine how Twelfth Night would have been with a man playing a woman pretending to be a man...how confusing would that be? Sometimes when a man goes out in a sequin dress and 6-ft tall hair and over the top makeup, the intent is to be campy and fun. If a person is transgendered, the intent is completely different. If you have ever seen "Better Than Chocolate" one of the characters sings a song called, "I'm not a f***ing drag queen". I think the song sums it up well.
  6. because people are losers its like when we was in school and u would get made fun of for wearing glasses or being over weight and all that.. its that they didn't grow out of that phase and america has instead of backing it by saying this is discrimination they go ohh its a joke.. i do laugh at some cause its funni and u can't really take everything to heart but u gotta see the diffrence in being funni and being serious
  7. Its just a matter of social convention. You have to remember that back in the early 50's Katherine Hepburn shocked Hollywood by wearing trousers to an interview. Back then women who wore trousers were thought of as being a threat to femininity. Back in the 60's the Beatles shocked society because they wore "long" hair... Other guys started wearing longer hair and the schools wrote rules prohibiting it. Society always has a hard time with people who do not conform. Still society depends on its youth to challenge social convention and open up greater freedoms. So what about guys wearing women's clothes? Maybe now is the time for young men to wear women's clothes and free all men from the tyranny of trousers. This is about freedom people!
